Auckland Airport has announced changes to its executive team. General Manager Retail and Commercial Richard Barker will be leaving the organisation on June 30, following six years with the business.
“Richard has made a strong contribution during his time with Auckland Airport, leading the development of our award-winning retail and food and beverage area at the international terminal, launching our successful online shopping platform The Mall, and ensuring travellers have a great experience every time they pass through our precinct,” said Auckland Airport Chief Executive Adrian Littlewood.
“While we are currently managing through the impact of COVID-19, Richard’s leadership and commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience means Auckland Airport’s retail business will be in an excellent position to rebuild quickly once the market begins to recover. Richard will be very much missed by everyone in the Auckland Airport team, as he looks to explore new opportunities outside our organisation. We wish him all the very best for the future,” said Mr Littlewood.
Mr Barker has been responsible for developing Auckland Airport’s retailing businesses, including duty free, specialty retail, and food and beverage, as well as overseeing passenger experience and car-parking. Under his leadership, in 2019 Auckland Airport's refurbished departure terminal and dining precinct was named the global Airport Food & Beverage Offer of the Year, while The Mall won ‘best e-commerce platform’ at the 2020 Moodies travel journey digital awards.
Responsibility for Mr Barker’s business portfolios will be shared between other members of the executive team.
