16 February 2009

It’s the second anniversary of Auckland Airport's travel plan and the company is encouraging staff to “Get On Yer Bike!” on 18 February.

The company is teaming up with Bike Wise Month and Manukau City Council’s Road Safety Team to encourage people to get to work differently.

The airport will be holding a Go By Bike Day breakfast on Wednesday 18 February between 8am-9.30am in the international public car park for all staff who take part in the Lift programme.

Free food and drinks will be provided to cyclists, bus users and carpoolers. Staff are encouraged to look out for the marquee near the parking attendant’s booth, you should smell the bangers! Remember to bring your bikes, Lift passes and bus tickets with you. Everyone attending the airport bash also has the opportunity of winning some great spot prizes.

Go By Bike Day is a day when New Zealanders, young and old are encouraged to cycle to school or work. The event links nicely with our Lift travel plan which has gone from strength to strength since it was launched two years ago.

With over 600 registered car poolers and more staff taking advantage of the improved and new bus services Auckland Airport is making a great team effort in reducing congestion and pollution!

So if you work at Auckland Airport... leave the car in the garage, pump up the bike tyres, don the fluoro, get out there, get fit and have some fun getting to work!
