Auckland Airport has been voted Australasia's Leading Airport at the 2009 World Travel Awards held in London.
The finalists in the leading airport field were Melbourne Airport, Nadi International Airport, Sydney Airport, Tahiti Faa'a International Airport and Wellington International Airport.
This award reinforces Auckland Airport’s recent ranking as one of the top 10 airports in the world, and the best airport in the Australia Pacific region in the 2009 independent Skytrax World Airport awards.
The World Travel Awards was founded in 1993 and is recognised as a premier event which acknowledges, honours and salutes excellence in the global travel and tourism industry.
The awards are described by the Wall Street Journal as the ‘Oscars’ of the global travel and tourism industry, and reveal who are the ‘best of the best’ in the world..
In the 2009 Awards it wasn’t just Auckland Airport representing Auckland. Air New Zealand scooped the leading airline of Australasia with Skycity in Auckland taking the title of Australasia’s leading casino resort.
