New taxi line up to deliver increased choice and better value to passengers at Auckland Airport

24 May 2016

Auckland Airport today revealed the new roster of taxi companies that will operate from the airport’s domestic and international terminals for the next three years.

Six operators: Auckland Co-op, Alert, Corporate Cabs, Green Cabs, Auckland Taxi Service (ATS) and Cheap Cabs have been selected by Auckland Airport through a competitive tender, which will take effect on 13 June.

Richard Barker, Auckland Airport’s general manager – retail and commercial, says companies were asked to demonstrate how they could deliver better value and consistently high customer service for passengers.

“As New Zealand’s major airport, it’s important for us to provide for a range of passenger transport options. To enable better taxi journeys from the airport, we have invested in new technology, made layout changes – including re-locating the domestic rank to outside the Air New Zealand arrivals area – and have also introduced new contract arrangements to let taxi companies better tailor their offer to meet customer expectations. These six companies were selected on the strength of their offers.”

Information about the six companies, including their per-kilometre rates and fixed fare prices, will be clearly displayed at the forecourt. Based on the selected taxi companies’ proposed fare schedules, fares to the CBD are expected to drop by up to $30.

“During the tender process we talked to the major taxi and ride-sharing companies. As part of the changes we have also invited new generation operators, such as Uber, to operate out of Auckland Airport on the same terms as other existing pre-chartered transport providers,” says Mr Barker.

“Therefore alongside bus, shuttles, pre-booked taxis and a suite of self-drive parking options, passengers can now look forward to having the option to choose a taxi from the terminal and be confident in the price they will pay and the level of service they will enjoy.”
