Planespotting is part of what makes AKL special. We love seeing aviation fans capture the aircraft that come through.
To keep everyone safe and the airport running smoothly, filming or photography for planespotting needs approval in advance.
Submit the filming request form at least 5 working days ahead and include a phone number we can reach you on while you’re on site.
When you arrive, call our Monitoring team on 0800 677 242 (option 4) with your location and how long you plan to be there.
Planespotting guidelines
- Use public areas only. Avoid private land, businesses, and boundary fences (stay 1.5 m back and don’t lean or put anything through/over).
- Wear a high-vis vest and carry photo ID.
- No drones/UAVs, ladders, or climbing on structures.
- Stay aware and don’t disrupt traffic, vehicles, or airport operations.
- Be respectful: share vantage points, don’t film people without consent, and follow instructions from airport staff or security agencies.
- If you’re spotting from one of our car parks, stay within the building footprint, don’t lean over rails, and only use a space if you’re parked in it.
Important
All filming or photography at Auckland Airport requires prior written approval under our by-laws.
You may be approached by a member of the Airport Security team, Aviation Security, Police, or other Border Agency. They are responsible for the safety of our airport and all visitors. Please respect and comply with their questions and/or instructions.
Thanks for being part of our community, and happy planespotting.
