Enjoying planespotting at Auckland Airport means doing it safely, respectfully, and in our approved planespotting locations.
Planespotting is only permitted at the following designated locations:
- Carpark R
- Carpark M
- Puhinui Lookout
Planespotting from any other location on the Auckland Airport precinct is not permitted.
Planespotting Guidelines
- Only use the designated planespotting locations: Carpark R, Carpark M and Puhinui Lookout.
- Use public areas only. Do not enter private land or businesses, and keep at least 1.5 metres back from boundary fences. Do not lean on fences or put anything through or over them.
- Carry photo ID while on site at all times.
- Do not use drones or UAVs, ladders, or climb on structures.
- Stay aware of your surroundings and do not disrupt traffic, vehicles, or airport operations.
- Be respectful of others. Share vantage points, do not film people without their consent, and follow any instructions from airport staff or security agencies.
- If you're spotting from Carpark R or Carpark M:
- Wear a high viz vest/jacket
- Stay within the building footprint and do not lean over rails.
- Only planespot from parking spaces if your vehicle is parked in it.
Stay social
From time to time, we reshare public planespotting content on our social channels and credit the creator. If you’d like your content to be considered, tag @aucklandairport and use #AKLsharemyspot so we know which images you'd love us to share.
Important
You may be approached by Airport Security, Aviation Security, Police, or other border agencies. These teams are responsible for the safety and security of the airport and everyone who visits. Please cooperate with any questions or instructions they provide.
Failure to follow these requirements may result in:
- Removal from the site by our security team.
- Suspension or loss of planespotting privileges at Auckland Airport.
Thank you for helping us keep Auckland Airport safe and enjoyable for everyone.
