16 May 2016

Auckland Airport welcomes the announcement by Hong Kong Airlines that it will start flying to Auckland from November this year. During the summer peak travel season, the airline will operate a daily non-stop flight using an A330-200 aircraft.

Hong Kong Airlines is a full service airline with a fleet of 30 aircraft and a network that covers over 30 cities across the Asia Pacific region.

Norris Carter, Auckland Airport’s general manager – aeronautical commercial, says, “We are delighted by Hong Kong Airlines’ announcement that it will start flying to New Zealand. This is great news for both New Zealand’s tourism industry and for Auckland Airport, Hong Kong Airlines’ latest destination.”

“Hong Kong is an important market for the New Zealand tourism industry, with the number of travellers increasing 15% every year over the last three years.”

“This new Hong Kong Airlines service will also play an important role in further connecting New Zealand with many of China’s large cities beyond Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.”

Auckland Airport estimates that Hong Kong Airlines’ new service will add 177,000 seats to the Hong Kong to Auckland route every year and will provide a $137 million boost to the New Zealand tourism industry.

“We look forward to welcoming Hong Kong Airlines, its passengers and its crew to New Zealand in November, and wish them all the very best for this new service,” says Mr Carter.
