Auckland Airport has welcomed today’s announcement by Air New Zealand that it will operate three flights per week to Manila from December 2016, using a B767-300ER aircraft.
Norris Carter, Auckland Airport’s general manager – aeronautical commercial, says, “This new Air New Zealand service between Manila and Auckland provides a great boost for our tourism industry.”
“New Zealand has experienced solid tourism growth from the Philippines in recent years and the addition of Air New Zealand services on the route will help to further grow this important emerging tourism market,” continues Mr Carter.
“Total visitor arrivals to New Zealand from the Philippines have increased 19% per cent annually over the last three years, with holidaying visitors one of the main driving factors for that growth. New Zealand travellers visiting the Philippines has been growing at 10% per year over the same period.”
“Most travellers to New Zealand from the Philippines are coming to visit friends and relatives, followed closely by travellers coming for leisure purposes. We are also seeing more and more travellers coming here to further their education. This new service will provide even greater choice for these visitors when travelling to New Zealand and also for New Zealanders wishing to visit the Philippines.”
“Auckland Airport estimates the new Air New Zealand service to Manila will annually deliver an additional 71,800 seats between New Zealand and the Philippines, and contribute $29 million in tourism spend to the New Zealand economy every year. That is great news for New Zealand, especially for our tourism industry.”
“Once again we congratulate Air New Zealand on this announcement and its ongoing development of new routes, services and capacity,” says Mr Carter.
