Auckland Airport has announced the appointment of Shakeel Adam as its new general manager aeronautical commercial.

Adrian Littlewood, Auckland Airport’s chief executive, says, “Shakeel will be responsible for our route development and tourism strategies and our focus on sustainably growing airline services to New Zealand.”

“Shakeel has over 16 years’ experience in airline, strategy and commercial management roles and a deep understanding of travel and trade markets. A licensed pilot, he started his aviation career as a design engineer at Bombardier Aerospace in Canada before moving into commercial leadership roles with airlines across the world, including as Director Operations Innovations with Air Canada and later as the global head of the commercial consulting division of Lufthansa Group.”

In addition to his aviation experience, Shakeel also has worked in oil and gas, telecom and strategy consultancy in Canada, the United States, Russia and the United Kingdom.

“Since 2009 Shakeel has led Aviado Partners, consulting to airlines across the world on network and fleet planning, revenue management, pricing and performance improvement and restructuring.”

“Shakeel’s extensive commercial and operational experience will be of great value to Auckland Airport. He has developed a broad network of relationships with airlines worldwide and we are very pleased that he has chosen to relocate from Germany to New Zealand to lead our aeronautical commercial team,” says Mr Littlewood.

Shakeel Adam says, “It’s a great time to be joining the team at Auckland Airport. I am excited to build on the outstanding results the airport has already achieved in growing travel markets, working with existing and new carriers, and the opportunity to further enhance the New Zealand brand globally.”

Shakeel will start work at Auckland Airport in the New Year.
