Auckland Airport applauds Jetstar on five years of domestic services

09 June 2014

Auckland Airport congratulates Jetstar as it celebrates its five year anniversary of carrying passengers on New Zealand’s domestic network.

Jetstar commenced air services on the domestic main trunk routes in June 2009 and has since carried over 7.5 million domestic passengers, with over 5 million of these passengers flying in and out of Auckland Airport.

Charles Spillane, Auckland Airport’s acting general manager of aeronautical commercial, says, “This is an important milestone for Jetstar and we would like to applaud the airline for five years of successful domestic operations in New Zealand.”

“Auckland is Jetstar’s busiest domestic airport with nearly 200 Jetstar flights a week to and from Auckland Airport. As a key domestic carrier, with services from Auckland Airport to Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown, Jetstar’s commitment to keeping fares affordable has proved very popular in New Zealand.”

“We have enjoyed working with Jetstar over the past five years and it has been exciting to see their seat capacity continue to grow during this time,” continues Mr Spillane.

“It is not only important to acknowledge that each air service in New Zealand makes a vital contribution to the tourism industry and our national economy, but also enables people to maintain important links with family throughout the country. We would like to thank Jetstar for the important part they play in this.”

Grant Kerr, Head of New Zealand for Jetstar, says, “As New Zealand’s biggest city, Auckland is a key market for our operations in New Zealand, with thousands of our domestic customers passing through Auckland Airport on a daily basis.”

The airline also has some exciting plans to mark the five year anniversary.

“We’ve organised some birthday surprises for customers travelling with us this week on domestic flights and we’ll be having giveaways as part of a week-long breakfast television promotion,” Mr Kerr said. “It’s our way of saying thank you to all our Kiwi customers.”
