Good news for Air New Zealand was good news for its staff when the airline was named “Airline of the Year” at the Air Transport World magazine awards – the aviation industry equivalent of the Oscars®.
It’s the first time Air New Zealand has won the award since it was first given out in 1974 and to celebrate, all 11,000 employees received an extra day off in 2010.
Judges commended the airline for its “superb commitment to safety and operational excellence” as well as its navigational technology, passenger-friendly IT systems and caring staff.
Air Transport World said Air New Zealand performed remarkably well during one of the most turbulent periods of aviation history. It was also impressed with their leadership role in addressing environmental issues facing the industry.
