Construction will commence on a new roundabout for George Bolt Memorial Drive this week which will create direct vehicle access to Auckland Airport's new north airport development.
The roundabout will also provide access to Varissimo Rd in Mangere, alleviating industrial traffic to the neighbouring residential streets.
Throughout the 6-months of road works, temporary roadways will be in place to ensure traffic to the country's largest airport is not compromised.
Auckland Airport is urging travelers and regular users of the airport precinct to take special care around the construction zone.
A comprehensive traffic management plan will be implemented and while every effort will be made to ensure traffic flows in both directions, some delays are expected. At times the speed limit will reduce to 50km an hour; however there will be four lanes open at all times.
The airport is encouraging travelers to and from the airport to allow extra travel time and suggest taking Puhinui Rd as an alternative route.
The project also includes the diversion of utility services such as telephone, electricity, gas and water mains services. Traffic using the existing Ihumatao Rd will not be affected.
The project begins on 9 January 2008 and is expected to be complete by mid July 2008. Please call 0800 AIRPORT for assistance.
