Airport of the future construction helps reduce carbon emissions

Auckland Airport has been recognised as one of the leading organisations in New Zealand in its efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

New Zealand’s main gateway has been ranked as one of the top 20 reducers in the carboNZero and CEMARS programmes after making a remarkable reduction of 22.6% or 2,287 tonnes of CO2e.

André Lovatt, Auckland Airport’s general manager airport development and delivery, was delighted the company had markedly reduced carbon emissions after also featuring in the top 20 in 2016.

“We’ve made significant carbon emission reductions over the past few years. This been achieved by upgrading to efficient lighting and heating systems as we progress through the construction of the airport of the future,” he says.

“We’re confident that we can continue to make further reductions to our emissions as we redesign and upgrade our aeronautical infrastructure over the next few years. Energy savings are good for the environment and also impact positively on tenants by reducing their costs,” he says.
