Auckland Airport has welcomed the announcement by Air New Zealand that it will launch a direct service to Taipei, Taiwan.
From November 2018 Air New Zealand will commence three flights per week from Auckland to Taipei with a Boeing 789 aircraft.
Scott Tasker, Auckland Airport’s general manager aeronautical commercial says the announcement is great news for New Zealand and will add 95,000 seats to the route and inject $80 million annually into the New Zealand economy.
“New Zealand already welcomes more than 36,000 visitors from Taiwan every year. The introduction of a direct service will be attractive to Taiwanese visitors and will encourage travel to New Zealand as a holiday destination,” says Mr Tasker.
The new service will also provide opportunities for trade, with the addition of 4,368 tonnes of air cargo capacity between New Zealand and Taiwan annually. In 2017 the key exports to Taiwan were strawberries, avocados and dairy products.
