Auckland Airport welcomes Jetstar to New Zealand’s domestic network

10 June 2009

Auckland Airport welcomes the commencement of the new Jetstar domestic air services in New Zealand. From today, Jetstar takes the reins from its parent company Qantas on the main trunk routes in New Zealand.

Auckland Airport chief executive, Simon Moutter said, “We are very pleased to see Jetstar commence their domestic air services in New Zealand. Each air service in New Zealand makes a vital contribution to the tourism industry and our national economy. We believe the launch of Jetstar domestically offers more choice to the budget-conscious Kiwi traveller, and the distinctive Jetstar style will add something fresh and different to the market.”

Jetstar is a value-based, low fares airline with an open, fresh approach to air travel. Its mission is to enable more people to fly more often and also to extend air travel to those who have previously never been able to afford to fly by offering customers all day, every day low fares.

Replacing existing Qantas flights, and reintroducing some services, with a new, modern A320 fleet, Jetstar will provide travellers with more options.

"Jetstar's expansion into domestic routes within New Zealand is a further significant growth milestone to become the Asia Pacific region's leading low fares airline," said Jetstar's CEO Bruce Buchanan.

Bruce also commented that Jetstar's entry into New Zealand’s domestic market would result in up to 250 direct jobs.

This news follows the Jetstar launch of Auckland trans-Tasman flights in April with daily services between Auckland and Sydney and Auckland and the Gold Coast (Coolangatta)
